What is Wider Achievement?
Young people attain formal qualifications at school, however, learning also takes place outside the classroom, at home and in the wider community.
At Inveralmond CHS we want children and young people of all ages to value and be proud of what they learn outwith the classroom, as well as in it. We want to work with parents and carers to give credit to pupils for what they are doing by recognising wider achievement and celebrating these successes. We actively encourage pupils and parents and carers to share their achievements with us.
Wider achievement can include;
- Hobbies and interests, such as participating in a sport
- Youth work
- Volunteering
- Caring for a relative
- Activities they undertake in the life of the school, including pupil parliament, ambassadors and learner voice
- Recognised awards or programmes, such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Through these activities, our young people develop important skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work. As a result, it is important that we recognise these achievements and help all young people achieve, connect and thrive.
